The main differences between anxiety and stress are:
- anxiety is usually short-termed
- stress may last for much longer - weeks, months, or even years
- anxiety is a worrying feeling of fear or apprehension
- stress is a response to a threatening situation, increasing adrenaline, called the
"fight or flight" hormone
- anxiety disorders are a group of psychiatric conditions including generalized anxiety
disorder, specific phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder and social phobia
- stress can come from anything that makes you feel angry, frustrated or nervous
- anxiety leaves you feeling unable to cope, worthless, unable to be logical, feel like
fainting or running away
- stress puts you in the 'defend and protect' mode making you stronger, faster and
results in doing things by instinct
